Self Care

Do I put other people’s needs before my own?

How do I justify looking after my needs particularly when I am a parent?

One way to justify meeting your needs is through the ripple effect.

The Ripple Effect of Self Care

1. When you take good care of yourself you naturally feel better about yourself and others.

2. You want to give more to those you love .

3. You give from a place of love  from really desiring to give to those close to us!

Where did this self-sacrificing pattern come from?

Does it really meet a persons needs efficiently and effectively?

Isn’t this another outdated impeding pattern that you would be better off to let go of?

You can”t give from an empty cup and you can’t drive on an empty tank!

If your car has very little or no petrol in the tank, as a driver, you are unable to travel far or taxi children. We fill our car with petrol (premium or unleaded) .We need to re-fuel our minds, bodies and spirit. Maybe, even put ourselves in for a service….a massage or detox.

On a plane parents are informed to put their oxygen masks on first. They are then in a better position to care for their children. Why wait for an emergency to practice this life saving advice. Apply it to your life now. See and feel the results.

I believe effective parenting is based upon parents’ role modeling the behaviours they would like to see their children display. Would you want your children to become adults who are unable to fulfill their own needs and dreams because they were overly accommodating the needs of others? We hope our children utilize their unique talents and find a purpose that enhances their life and those around them. This also is the ripple effect!

This practice is called self care, not self centeredness. The children count, so do the parents. Spending time nurturing the relationship with yourself and your partner provides a supportive and sustaining foundation for your children to flourish and thrive.

When you care for your self you are happier, healthier and achieve greater success.

If you don’t make yourself a priority, who will?

If not now, When?

Start today. Take one small step towards greater self care and feel the positive changes.
