Who are you making responsible for your happiness?
You can be ‘at cause’ for the things that happen in your life, or ‘at effect’ of things that happen to you.
If you are ‘at effect’ you may feel like a victim, unhappy, disempowered, dissatisfied, stuck in a rut and not getting the results you would like. You may have a long list of REASONS why you don’t live the life you desire: my spouse won’t let me; I went to the wrong school; my parents held me back; it’s my job, the government, lack of time etc. etc.
Sometimes it’s easier to blame and have reasons. We can stay in our comfort zone, rather than the learning zone or scarier still the Success zone! If things don’t go according to plan we have an ‘out’ – a reason why it didn’t work. We can focus on others responsibilities rather than our own. But how fulfilling is this way of thinking and behaving?
“Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they’re yours.” Richard Bach
If you are ‘at cause’ you feel empowered and self assured. You will be proactive, courageous and resourceful. You will have RESULTS not reasons.
Do you create your reality? Are you one hundred percent responsible for how your life situation is? No-one knows exactly how much we create our own reality.
If you believe you are totally responsible you are more open to opportunities, looking for solutions, living with hope, purpose and self confidence. Which is the more satisfying way to live?
Exercise: Take two small steps today which would signify your commitment to be at cause rather than at effect in your life. No doubt the steps will benefit those around you as well.
The only thing preventing you achieving what you want to achieve are the stories you tell yourself.
